Horror reviews

While I will never look at myself as a movie expert or someone whose opinion should be followed I do want to share my opinions on a couple of horror movies I recently saw, or find good enough to mention years after watching them. I do not want to create a full listing of all movies I find good, because then this would become a very long list of Hell Raisers, Saw, Hostel, SawII, Nightmare on Elmstreet etc ...

My wife and I share the same strange taste for movies, err...
that is how my collegues call it

Brief overview of the post below

Good Horror movies in order of greatness:

• The last house on the left (1972)
• The hills have eyes (2006) or 1977 if you can find it
• Feed (2005)
• The Descent (2005)
• Perdita Durango (1997)

Movies you shouldn't see, if possible

• The death tunnel
• Hell Raiser: Deader

The links (more on imdb) will give you the normal summary, which I wont copy/paste but you should read none the less. The parts I add are the pieces I find are missing to give you the correct teaser...

Do keep in mind: these are just our opinions, and we do like the old blood and gore genre ...

last house on the left

Last house on the left
(more on imdb)

This movie was the first of Wes Craven, who should be rewarded for his contribution to horror because of 'Last house on the left', 'Hills have eyes', 'A Nightmare on Elmstreet' ! I still don't like the Scream franchise but the former movies have made a lasting impression....

Summary:

It is the story of 2 girls going out for a "Bloodlust" concert in New York City. Meanwhile, we learn from a radio that four convicts "murderers, dope-pushers and rapists" have just escaped from prison. The girls end up at the wrong place at the wrong time. They're kidnapped, raped and murdered afterwards only 100 feet from one of the girls home. The murderers end up, after their car brakes down, in this house. The parents finally figure out what happened and feed them drunk and kill them very very painfully.

+: Chainsaw scene, very explicit and stumach turning !

hills have eyes

Summary:

- sorry I don't want to spoil the end of the movie because this is truly a must see.

Imagine following scene:

A mutant crawls upon the sleeping, beautiful youngest daughter in the family camper. When she wakes up and starts screaming the creature shouts 'Now' in an old-school walkie-talkie. Hell freezes over ...

The father, which you saw being bitch slapped in a car a few scenes back, hangs in a tree and is burned alive. The family hears the crying of the father and runs from the camper. The mutant starts molesting the daughter. Another mutant, Lizard, starts eating the canaries and watches how the girl starts crying harder. He then slaps the other mutant and says: 'You need to be a man for this', after which he grabs the girl and starts raping her. Then the family hears the screams of the daughter and runs back to the camper. The father died a very painfull death I might add... The older sister comes in the camper and stands eye 2 eye with the rapist. He takes a gun and aims to her baby in the camper. She panics and he starts molesting her and drinks from the breast of the young mother. The elder daughter panics and stabs the mutant. The mutant takes his gun and ... head-shot ... The mother enters the camper and before she can say anything she receives a belly shot. The mutants take the baby and the younger daughter outside. Lizard says to the daughter: Look at me, points his gun to her, pulls the trigger, ... ran out of bullets. 'I'll be back for you' and they take off ....

You must see this movie !

feed

Feed
(more on imdb)

This movie was good because of the quite shocking story altogether.

Michael is a feeder. This is a person feeding another, a gainer, for the purpose of gaining as much as possible (weight that is). The gainer wants to become as fat, and as dependant as possible. Michael is followed by a police agent, O'Loughlin, that also caught the cannibalist that made a man eat himself (Arwin Meiwes in 2002)... Michael has a sexual and deeply caring relationship with his gainer(s). It is only in the second part of the movie that you see that Michael has a double agenda with his gainers. He not only creates websites with their gains, but also a bedding site on which you can place beds on their die date. The interesting part of the movie is that the cop at a certain moment loses himself and that you receive an explanation why Michael became a feeder, his mother was a gainer avant-la-lettre... The cop hits his girlfriend, falls in love with Michaels' fat sister, and in the end just shoots the gainer and starves Michael to make him his gainer and say: 'Feed Me' ....

Quite f*cked up movie with a lot of great scenes.

The Descent
(more on imdb)

The story goes as follows:
After a rafting trip with her girlfriends she returns home with her husband and daughter, who came to pick her up. Then a terrible, and very explicit ;) , accident happens. And I mean Final Destination style explicit.
A year later the girlfriends decide to have another trip, this time a caving expidition. This goes wrong after a collapse in one of the tunnels. Then it becomes clear that they are not on the easy trip (why do it if it isn't dangerous) but on an unknown caving system. After a few moments you receive a glimp of the predators that will soon hunt them. Imagine Golum/Smiegul on steroids, blind like a T-Rex and with the bloodlust of a vampire. Some team kills and an not so happy end make this a must see !

Perdita Durango
(more on imdb)

Perdita is bad news. And then she meets Romeo, a bank-robbing, corpse-stealing, human flesh-eating man.

Unfortunately for a very young couple, they’re in the wrong place at the wrong time and find themselves kidnapped by Romeo and Perdita. Meanwhile, Romeo has hijacked a truck loaded with human fetuses for a Las Vegas cosmetics factory. With their prisoners in the back, our anti-heroes make their way from Mexico to Vegas, shootin’ and killin’ and lovin’ every minute of it.

In pursuit is Dumas (James Gandolfini aka Toni Soprano from the Sopranos), a U.S. DEA officer and father of the girl who watches the carnage in Mexico and waits for his chance to catch the hellish couple when they cross the border into his jurisdiction. The climactic confrontation comes, but not until we’ve been witness to robberies, shootings, rapes (of course, the victims eventually decide that they like it), runnings-over and dismemberment. The point here? NONE....

Imagine the father eventually finding his daughter and running towards her, gun drawn, and then ...
being run over by a car

The lesser movies are truly sad and not worth renting...

The death tunnel
From another viewers review on imdb:
** Jesus Christ. I want my 90 minutes back.
That is the best review I can give you. Beatiful girls, creepy set, and nothing from there on out....

Hell Raiser 7: Deader
Even worse than Hell Raiser 8: HellWorld.
A hell raiser movie without a decent role for pinhead, the cube and most important: Cenobites isn't worthy of the title.
I actually found Hell Raiser 8 a good movie, just not a 'hellraiser movie', but still good. Deader however is neither.
